Danny’s Value Play: High Performance British Luxury

In the last couple of issues we’ve talked about some classic and modern classic convertibles. This month I’m interested in something a bit different. I want to talk about modern high performance British luxury. My pick for August’s Value Play is the 2012 Bentley GT Coupe!

The 2012 GT Coupe is an upgraded version of the Bentley Continental GT that came out in 2003.

The body itself didn’t change much from the original version; it’s a little wider, the grill is a little more elevated, but it keeps the same smooth, refined look with no extra flash.

It does have new LED lights and 21 inch wheels giving it a more modern look. The interior also had a major makeover with larger, more luxurious seats and all top quality materials.

The 2012 GT Coupe is an elegant embodiment of the modern luxury car, but under the hood it’s all power.

It has a 6-liter twin-turbocharged W12 with an added 15 hp and 37 lb-ft of torque giving it a grand total of 567 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. It goes from 0-60 in 4.4 seconds and maxes out at 198 mph.

The 2012 GT Coupe also rides a bit lower, has an upgraded suspension and chassis, and weighs 143 lb less than the original model. Weighing in at about 5,200 lb, it’s not a small car, but it handles well for its size.

Bentley’s continuous damping control adjusts the suspension’s firmness hundreds of times per second to absorb impacts. So despite it’s weight, this car offers a quite, extremely smooth ride.

With a little bit of digging you should be able to pick one up for just under $100,000.
