Danny’s Value Play: A Modern Porsche Convertible

This month I’d like to take a look at yet another great convertible. Last time we covered a couple of modern classics, but in this article we’ll be talking about something a bit more current — the 2016 Porsche Boxster Spyder!

The 2016 Porsche Boxster Spyder is the latest of the Porsche boxster tradition starting in the 1950’s. These cars were originally designed to strip all unnecessary weight making them extremely light compared to the larger monsters they competed against.

The 2016 model stays true to that concept. Weighing in at just 2,900lbs, the 2016 Boxster Spyder is the lightest current model Porsche. It also has the most power of any previous boxster with a 3.7 liter, six-cylinder engine.

It generates 375 hp., goes from 0-60 in 4.3 seconds and maxes out at 180 mph.

Some Porsche boxster purest will argue the 2016 model falls short of being a true “traditional” boxster because of the larger (and heavier) engine. With that said, the latest model still manages to be lighter than the previous models, so I’ll let you be the judge.

Regardless, this car performs wonderfully and is an absolute blast to drive with a 6-speed manual gear box and a beautiful exhaust note.

It also saw limited production, making it rare and collectible. With a little bit of digging, you should be able to grab one for just under $100,000.
